I bought this to wash our wood floors in our house and the tile floors in our master bath. With two kids under 5, a 150 lb Great Pyrenees dog that looks like a polar bear, and living in an area that gets frequent snow, our wood floors can take quite a beating. Mopping doesn’t work — besides being laborious, have you ever tried to keep two toddlers off a wet floor? Can’t be done. This seemed the perfect solution. And if anyone was going to put this thing to the test, it was me.
The washing works great. Yes, it is loud, but so is a wet/dry vac. The motion for washing the floor works much like a steam cleaner: push away and hold the button to apply the solution, let go of the button and pull the unit back towards you to suck the solution back up. A really dirty floor might need two passes, but it still gets it really clean. It also works best if you do a small section at a time, and I had better success going in the direction of the wood boards instead of across them.
The dry vac doesn’t work so well, but then again no one should be buying this thinking it would work as a regular vacuum. I suggest getting a good Dyson model for wood floors. The FloorMate arrived and was very easy to assemble. It comes with solution for wood floors and tile, but it is a small bottle. I suggest ordering a large bottle if you have a couple of rooms to wash.
I’m a male, and I do a lot of housework to help my wife, but neither of us like to do floors. Who does? Well, as soon as I fired this thing up, I knew I was going to do the whole house. I quickly ran out of solution. If there is one other con besides being loud, it is that the solution container is small. You can refill the solution four or five times without emptying the dirty water container. It seems to me it would have been better if they made the cleaning solution area (top) a little larger, and the dirty water (bottom) a little smaller. After running out of the Hoover solution, I used some dilluted Murphy’s Oil. I’m not sure if this is OK with Hoover, probably not since they want to sell THEIR solution, but I thought it worked much better and smelled awesome. And, at $13 for a gallon of Murphy’s oil (which makes 64 gallons of actual cleaning solution), Murphy’s is a good alternative.
Pros:
Washes as advertised
easy to assemble
easy to refill, empty
Works the same aas the never Hoover model (H3045) but is $30 cheaper
Cons:
Not clear if other solutions work
Loud
Small container for the solution

It was with great skepticism that I viewed this particular Christmas gift - but I love it! I have Pergo floors and have always cleaned them with a vinegar and water solution either by hand or mop and then dried them with terrycloth towels. Works great but with three young boys I found myself doing this three to four times a week and it is incredibly time consuming. This machine is so much easier to use(and, by the way, I am not lazy and have no problem leaning over, as one reviewer suggested). My floors are cleaner than they have ever been and the process is three times as fast.
One note - the solution that comes with it smells nice and makes the floors look great but, like most cleaning solutions, actually leaves a slight film on the floor that attracts dirt. I started using vinegar and water in the machine. I have had no problems, the floors look great, and they stay cleaner longer.

This tool definitely cleans up stained concrete floors painlessly. Prior to rewaxing our floors, we scrubbed our floors with the Floormate using water and vinegar as the cleaning solution. It easily removed dirt (that includes everything from coffee drips to dried cat vomit!) that has been caked onto the floor with one or two passes of the brush. When set to dry pick-up or scrub, it will pick up fluid well enough that the floor dries within a few seconds.
I have not tried using the Floormate as a dry vacuum only because I have read many reviews saying that it does not pick-up well when used in that function. When we used it to do a major scrub down, I vacuumed first with my Dyson Animal (the best dry vacuum I have ever tried…and I’ve gone through a lot of them!). If you are looking for an all-in-one vacuum, this is not the appliance for you. If you want a wet vacuum/scrubber that works well and does not cost an arm and a leg, the Floormate is definitely a great buy.

I bought this to help me clean up after 20 animals; and because I have tile and wood floors. The scrubbing on my hands and knees and then sopping every thing up with towels was getting old. I also was not cleaning the floors it as often as they needed. For heavy duty cleaning forget the solution tank, you will get a bad case of trigger finger. I fill a gallon bottle with cleaning solution, slosh it on the floor, scrub with scrub brush (while standing), then pull out the machine to scrub a bit more and then suck up the filthy solution. For touch up cleaning I leave the machine set up, slosh some solution on the floor and then scrub and suck up with the machine. My floors are a lot cleaner, the clean-up is easy, and I am not crippled afterwards. But, it is not faster. I bought a used machine and got lucky that all the parts were there and working.

I’ve owned 3 Hoover Floormates. They all have done
a great job on the tile. This particular model has great suction
and a wider cleaning bar as compared to the others. However,
the rotary brushes don’t get up dried bits of dirt or food
as well as the other two. So I’ve resorted to using a sponge
to get these up prior to cleaning.
